The Journal on Excellence in College Teaching

Celebrating 29 Years of Presenting and Publishing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Welcome to the Journal website!

The Journal on Excellence in College Teaching (ISSN 1052-4800) is a peer-reviewed journal published at Miami University by and for faculty at universities and two- and four-year colleges to increase student learning through effective teaching, interest in and enthusiasm for the profession of teaching, and communication among faculty about their classroom experiences. It answers Ernest Boyer's (1990) call for a forum to present the scholarship of teaching and learning. The Journal provides a scholarly, written forum for discussion by faculty about all areas affecting teaching and learning, and gives faculty the opportunity to share proven, innovative pedagogies and thoughtful, inspirational insights about teaching.

Volume 20, Number 3 (2009) -- Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning

". . . [E]ach of us has the potential to help change practice in ways that improve our teaching and our students' learning. As these authors demonstrate, just as disciplinary approaches in academia use scholarly work to investigate and advance knowledge, pedagogical innovation can—and should—also advance by building on the work of others and carrying out systematic investigations of our attempts to improve our teaching and our students' learning. We invite our readers to engage in evidence-based practice in their own classrooms and to become advocates for this approach within their departments and on their campuses."
